So, I set out to create a simple journal spread; famous last words, right? What started as a quiet watercolor session quickly spiraled into a full-blown art experiment featuring collage paper, markers, Posca pens, ink pads, and, because apparently I was feeling ambitious\u2026 yarn. Yes, yarn. Did it ask to be involved? No. Did I involve it anyway? Absolutely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This video starts at the moment I already had a fight with the cheapest watercolor pallet on earth: the ones my daughter used when she was little.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So we\u2019re talking about pigments trying to be watercolors from about 25 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why? Because I can\u2019t throw away stuff and want to use it up as much as I can, so now is that time to release them from conservation-mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because this kind of kindergarten watercolors at first behave like they\u2019re awesome colors, but when they dry they look like they are bleached by the sun and totally wiped out from the paper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had to move mountains to add vibrant colors in other ways, so first a painful and finally a beautiful chaos ensued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, I reached for collage paper; strategically glued in position to give the illusion that I definitely had a plan. (Spoiler: I did not.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the time I introduced pencils and markers, I was basically freestyling my way into what I now call \u2018happy accidents.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Posca pens joined in here and there and the ink pads?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s just say they added a few smudges I\u2019m generously referring to as \u2018texture.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then came the yarn. Was it necessary? Debatable. Was it dramatic? Entirely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The final result? A spread that looks like it\u2019s survived an artsy tornado and I love it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There\u2019s no such thing as a \u2018mistake\u2019 here, just layers of possibilities. So, grab your supplies, embrace the imperfections and don\u2019t be afraid to add a little yarn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
